Nostalgia Batavia expresses my interrogations on who I am. On my identity. Dutch, living in France.
I became too french to be really dutch and still too dutch to be french.
Before accepting this duality, I’ve been through periods of exaggerated desire of affiliation or even denial of my roots.
Over the years, and merely after the Covid period, this interrogation became a sort of nostalgia.
I’ve wanted to add a humorous twist to the situations, by using a cow, one of the emblems of the Netherlands.
